Change is how we grow
Many of our neurodivergent family members struggle when it comes to family gatherings or big events. Whether it's because they are not sure how to engage socially, are sensitive to certain environmental triggers, or we, as caregivers, are simply at a loss for how best to create an inclusive event - One thing is clear, our neurodivergent loved ones deserve the opportunity to engage in memory-making moments that are trauma-informed and stress free.
We have assured desensitization practice plans to walk you, your child, and your provider through to create a visit to the specialist that feels safe and secure for your loved one. The key is to build relationship and positive experiences in these new, and sometimes intimidating environments.
We provide key questions and an extensive list of accommodation considerations for your trip. We can coordinate with your travel agent or reach out to your vendors to ensure you and your loved one will have the BEST experience.
We have a thorough interview and assessments process to guide you in accommodation selection, event flow, & party set up for increased inclusion and accessibility.
A gradual, systematic, exposure-based desensitization consultation and plan is available for sensory sensitivities or phobias where needed. This can include fear of crowds, sensitivity to noises, fear of specific instruments/tools needed for the event, and many more areas of need.
Practice plans for the family to use with their loved one prior to the event to work on skill acquisition in areas related to the specifics of the event. This will include caregiver coaching from our Trauma-Informed Special Needs Expert as well as on-going support where trouble-shooting is necessary.
Caregivers will receive coaching leading up to the event to ensure that they feel supported and confident when the big day arrives. This can include additional family members or event guests as needed.
Where needed, we offer event-day support from our trauma-informed Special Needs expert who has extensive experience working with neurodivergent individuals who are at heightened levels of stress, feeling uncomfortable, or who have experienced trauma in similar situations.
